Hear a train whistle blow with the chug of the engine while being surrounded by history.

The perfect way to spend B.C. Day is in Fort Langley at the BC Farm and Agricultural Equipment Museum.

The museum exhibits the province's largest pioneer collection from tractors and stoves to magazines and egg graders.

To celebrate B.C. Day, a special G-Scale model train exhibit will be set up and operating Aug. 3 to 6 in addition to a number of "pioneer style" activities.

On B.C. Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the festivities include weaving, spinning and rope making demonstrations, as well as the opportunity to take your own pictures of family and friends in one of the museum's buggies.

Tim Horton's coffee and donuts will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

While enjoying a snack, stop for a moment to watch the trains.

"Hear the gas burners, smell the steam oil, watch the plumes of live steam, hear the engine chuff, and see the lights in the dining cart twinkle as the [G-Scale model] CPR passenger train leaves Fort Langley station heading east," said Duane Rose, of the Fraser Valley G-Scale model train club. "The trains are alive at the BC Farm Museum on B.C. Day weekend."

While the Fort Langley station Rose refers to is a fraction of the size of a real train station, visitors will be impressed by the 25' by 40' layout the G-Scale trains will run on.

Complete with buildings, vehicles, people and animals, children of any age will have plenty to look at.

The G-Scale is a durable train set up both indoors and outdoors. The average car is about a foot and half in length, 4.5" wide and 6.5" high.

With two sets of tracks on the one layout at the museum this weekend, visitors can see electric steam and diesel locomotives as well as live steam locomotives pulling all types of cars.

Run solely by volunteers, the BC Farm Museum is a three-level, 20,000 plus square foot complex filled with artifacts.

Use the B.C. Day holiday to witness model trains, train history and farm history at the museum on King Street between Mavis and Mary Avenues in Fort Langley.
