Two events this weekend allow people to show they really have heart.
On Saturday people can stop by A Valentine Fair for the Heart & Stroke Foundation at the Langley Eagles Hall, 248th Street and Fraser Highway, from noon to 5 p.m.
On Sunday, there's the Valentine Craft Fair and Flea Market at the Fort Langley Community Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A Valentine Fair
Organizer Janet Megahy said the event includes vendors with items such as beauty products, lingerie and more, not to mention live entertainment by the Jim Abbott Band (talents donated to support the cause), and a health workshop with Dr. Holly Fourchalk.
"If you have any questions on heart attacks or strokes she will present to answer questions," Megahy said.
Heart health is a vital issue for Megahy.
"I lost a friend from a heart attack and I'm at risk of a stroke myself and I want to give back," she said.
Two years ago, she was stung by a bee, which caused a blood clot.
"The blood clot has moved its way down towards my heart and I'm now at risk of a stroke," she said.
She encourages people to learn the signs of heart attacks and strokes (www.heartandstroke.bc.ca).
Valentine Craft Fair and Flea Market
After a successful Christmas fair, a group of friends and family have decided to host an event Sunday that features local musicians, and enjoy the array of goods available.
"We are a mixture of local, First Nations and people who love crafting and flea markets," said organizer Dianne Jones.
In 2006, she was diagnosed with a rare heart condition call spontaneous dissection so this event honours the heart. A donation table will be set up for the Heart & Stroke Foundation where people can also get information about heart health.
She said the intent is it create an event that encourages a sense of community in the "heart" of the community where in the past everyone came together.
