A pair of indie rock musicians from Langley emerged victorious in round three of a band battle in Vancouver last week, securing themselves a spot in the finals happening Wednesday.

The competition - dubbed Band Fight - began weekly knockout rounds on Nov. 7 and has seen the shortlist whittles down from the region's top 12 up-and-coming bands to just four.

In the third round of the AMP Records competition, held at the Library Square Public House in Vancouver last week, the Langley group, The Cut Losses, literally made the cut.

Judges at last week's competition had some favourable comments to offer about the Langley duo.

Phil Lehmann of AMP Records said that "they have the look!" and a "well thought out sound."

Scott Alan, from The Fox, said that "they have so much power with only 2 guys. Awesome!" He described them as "Nirvana meets Black Rebel Motorcycle Club."

Tara Lett of AMP Records said that "the look, playing, performance, and vocals were great", and that "they're ready to go pro."

Vivian Pencz, from the Georgia Straight, said that "they dress like the Hives and sound like The Vines/ Nirvana/ The White Stripes", and that they were "effortlessly cool" and their "throwback sound was impressive."

The pair is now preparing for Wednesday's finals, again at the Library Square. They're up against fellow finalists The Airtights of Vancouver, Virginia Leaves of Tsawwassen, and an AMP Records wild card choice - Bobby's Cane from New Westminster.

Band Fight is a battle of the bands competition where up-and-coming groups are competing for a professionally recorded song plus $12,000 worth of radio promotion with AMP Records, guaranteed radio play on 99.3 The Fox, and a feature newspaper article.
