Options for Volunteers

The following is a selection of volunteer opportunities from various community organizations, made available through Volunteer North Shore, a service of North Shore Community Resources Society.

Terry Fox run: The North Shore Rotary Club is looking for volunteers to help with Terry Fox Run which takes place Sunday, Sept. 19 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Volunteer marshals will be asked to ensure runners/walkers stay on the correct course and also help with the refreshment station.

Summer volunteers: Stanley Park Ecology Society is offering an exciting opportunity for youth ages 14-20 to earn volunteer hours during two week rotations throughout the summer months. Volunteers will work in teams to remove targeted invasive species from selected areas of the park, speak with the public about ecology and invasive species and also support team members and coordinators.

Student ambassadors: Volunteers are needed to raise awareness of Kids Help Phone in schools and communities. Volunteers also will assist with the creation and organization of fundraising events.

One-to-one visitor: A volunteer is needed to visit residents at a lodge on a one-to-one basis each week. Chat with residents in their room or common areas, walk in the gardens and play games or cards.

If you are interested in these or other possible volunteer opportunities, call 604-985-7138. The society is a partner agency of the United Way.
