The folks of Langley Gardens are inviting the community for lunch.

The seniors complex in Walnut Grove is hosting Cooking for a Cause, a fundraising barbecue July 13 from 11: 30 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m. at 8888 202nd St.

"This is the first time we've held this specific event, though we have done other similar things in the past," explained Mia Sieben, the retirement community's sales manager. "The Canadian Diabetes Association is an organization that Chartwell Seniors Housing supports at our corporate level, so we have done fundraising for them on many other occasions and certainly will continue to do so in the future."

In addition to a healthy barbecue lunch, there will be a table of information about the diabetes association, giveaways and music.

"It's a chance for folks to come and socialize in our beautiful outdoor courtyard while supporting a wonderful cause," Sieben said.

Funds will be donated to the diabetes organization.

"Everyone is invited to this event - seniors, people whose lives have been touched by diabetes, those interested in enjoying a healthy lunch and supporting Canadian Diabetes- the more the merrier," she said.
