Tuesday and Thursday nights throughout January, Chad Gerow was more than happy to offer his self-defence expertise for free.

"It's great," the mixed martial arts fighter said, speaking about the satisfaction he gets in teaching free women's self defence courses at the gym on the Langley Bypass. "It feels good to help someone learn how to get out of a hard situation safely."

Participants' ages varied, from 10 years old up to adult. Each session ran for about 45 minutes and ranged from boxing components, to evasion techniques, to defence against weapons such as knives and guns.

Since Jan. 3, Revolution has been hosting its community campaign, "Because I'm a Girl."

Classes were free and open to all women of all fitness levels and ages.

Revolution Martial Arts is at 20460 Langley Bypass. Call 604-532-0079.
