Tour de Valley hits road
Police from Langley and beyond are raising money to fight childhood cancer

As of this week, the total donations to the Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley are just shy of $250,000 for 2012.
That number will be music to the ears of the law enforcement officers taking part in the ride, which begins today (Thursday) in Surrey.
Captained by Langley's Steve Dickinson, the Tour de Valley will ride through the Lower Mainland from Delta up to Chilliwack, with an extra leg from Hope to Boston Bar through the Fraser Canyon.
Over nine days, the team of more than 20 riders, drawn from the RCMP, Delta and Abbotsford Police, border guards, and court sheriffs, will cover almost 900 kilometres on their bikes.
They will be stopping at schools and businesses, including a number here in Langley.
The entire event is designed to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society, and specifically for kids with cancer.
The money goes towards research projects that have extended the lives of children diagnosed with the disease. It also brings joy into their lives through Camp Goodtimes, a summer camp in Maple Ridge run exclusively for kids who have survived cancer, or are still in treatment. On-site doctors and nurses specially trained in oncology make it a unique environment for kids from B.C. and the Yukon.
