The Langley Chiefs made a statement - in terms of fashion and in their fight against breast cancer - this month.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to show their support, the Chiefs wore pink jerseys during home games at the Langley Events Centre.
The Chiefs annual Fight against Breast Cancer campaign wrapped up on Saturday following the club's home game against the Surrey Eagles.
While coming up short on the scoreboard - losing to the Eagles by a 6-4 score - the Chiefs came out way ahead after the game and so did the fans, as the club raised more than $7,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
All through October, Chiefs' fans bid (by donation or silent auction) on the players' game-worn pink jerseys, and at the conclusion of Saturday's game, 23 fans were rewarded for their generosity as each player took the jersey off his back and delivered them to the winning fans directly from the ice.
In the end, contributions from the fans and the five sponsors who supported the fundraiser (Darnell & Company Lawyers, Otter Co-Op, Frosting Cupcakery, Quantum Speed, Surrey Golf & Country Club) raised $7,555.70 for the cause.
