Monday was time to say a big “thank you” to the 2010 BC Summer Games volunteers.

The suntans will fade and the blisters will heal but the memories of 2010 BC Summer Games volunteers will last.

To honour the thousands of people who volunteered for the Games, organizers threw a party Monday evening in the Langley Events Centre.

People snacked on finger food and cool drinks while enjoying door prize giveaways and live entertainment.

Speakers thanked the volunteers and commented that the Games would not have been possible without their efforts. Games Society vice president Jamie Paterson tried to sum it up, having a bit of fun.

“I don’t know what to say,” he said, and continued with a touch of humour: “Thank you. You’re welcome. I’m sorry.”

From all accounts, the young people enjoyed their time in Langley.

Burnaby wrestling coach Frank Mensah said he wanted to head home after Saturday’s competition wrapped up, but his kids pleaded to stay.

“They said, ‘No, we want to go to some other events. We want to go to the dances and the closing ceremonies,’” the coach told the Langley Advance.
