Langley's dental hygienist and singer Amber Locker and the other members of Whiskey Jane are hoping to have a single with video ready to release late this summer, a new album out by fall, and offers of stardom soon after.

Okay, the last part might be a pipe dream, but Locker and the band are working harder than ever to get their name, their music, and their faces out there and recognized.

Formed in the spring of 2006 in Vancouver, this high energy band with attitude has quickly become a fixture in the West Coast country scene.

The group has been regulars on the country club circuit, including Gabby's Cabaret and Roosters, for a few years now. In fact, they performed at Gabby's again last weekend.

"But we've been getting better opportunities every year," said the band's drummer Rafe Haines, noting recent song inclusion on a new TV series called Hell on Hooves.

The six-person band is also headlining at the Cloverdale Rodeo this weekend, playing all four nights in the Longhorn Saloon.

Other big shows include the Canada Day festivities at Canada Place on July 1, the annual Thunder Alley Stomp 'n Toy Run in Barriere July 3, followed by the Ranchman's Club in Calgary in mid-July - during Stampede week.

But it was a performance at the Richmond Ozone during the Olympics that Locker believes gave this band it's most significant boost ever to its fan base with exposure to thousands of new listeners.

Between all that, the Vancouver-based band was back in studio a few weeks ago recording another six potential tracks for its upcoming album.

They've been shopping around Nashville for song ideas, wanting this next album to be a strong mix of slow and fast songs, Locker explained.

The intention is to test drive about 40 songs, pick the best 20 from that, then eventually whittle it down 10 or 12 winners for the album.

"We're really excited because the ones coming across the table are really strong," Haines said.

"We're focusing on quality, rather than quantity," Locker added. "This is a sophomore record, and we believe it's going to be good."

Locker is excited about this new album, which she will play a much bigger role in creating.

The group's last album, Things Left Unsaid, was released in 2009, but by the time Locker joined the band in August 2006, much of it was written.
