From one man to another, long-time Langley actor Ken Boyd has a recommendation heading into the unofficial romantic season.
With Valentine's Day approaching so quickly, Boyd said a bouquet of flowers, a nice dinner, and a pair of tickets to Surrey Little Theatre's (SLT's) sexy and romantic comedy, Looking, are a sure way for any man to enough brownie points to carry him through the rest of the year - no matter how bad he might be.
Boyd is one of the four-member cast currently presenting the Norm Foster play at the Clayton playhouse.
"....", said Boyd, a 28-year veteran of community theatre who's proved he's comfortable in a wide range of artistic venues.
With 23 years as a radio broadcaster and voice-over artist, Boyd has also been a guest entertainer on cruise ships, demonstrated his acting abilities in the TV series The Killing, starred in Langley Players' production The Good Game, and more recently dabbled as a painter with his works displayed in venues such as Langley City hall and the Fort Gallery.
Right now, his artistic talents are being focused on the SLT stage where he plays Matt in Looking, the story of four middle-aged singles who are looking for some kind of a relationship.
Boyd isn't the only Langley person entwinned in this production. He's joined on stage by Fort Langley's Kim Monsanto, who's playing Val - a divorcee who hasn't had a date in six years.
And from behind the scenes emerges another Langleyite, Rita Price, who's taken on her 16th directing role for this quick-paced play spotlighting the ups and downs of dating for the 45-plus people.
"I'm delighted the way the four actors have captured the essence of these characters and have brough them to life," Price said.
"They've taken Foster's adult fun and games and poignant moments and mixed them together in what will be a hilarious romp for the audiences," she added.
This play opened last week, and is set to continue until Feb. 18, although Price said the production will likely be held over for an extra weekend given the show's popularity.
SLT had already sold out several of the showings, which run Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays (Feb. 5 and 12) at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $15, and reservations can be made at 64-576-8451, or by emailing reservations@surreylittletheatre.com.
