The Recycling Ambassador program is a new Langley Township initiative that will help resident volunteers become the go-to person for recycling education and knowledge within their building/complex.

"Volunteers will be provided with a training workshop, a toolkit with posters, resources and educational materials, along with continued support from Township staff," explained Krista Daniszewski, the Township's solid waste coordinator.

"Recycling rates in multi-family buildings are much lower than single family homes (16 per cent versus 46 per cent), and the goal of this program is to reduce waste and increase the capture rate of recyclable items in these buildings."

One or more volunteers are selected from each multi-family residential building/complex to participate in the Recycling Ambassador program. Volunteers are provided with a training workshop, educational materials, posters and promotional items, along with assistance and support throughout the program.

Recycling Ambassador campaigns will differ from building to building, volunteer to volunteer. Involvement can be as simple as posting posters and answering resident questions; or it can involve larger campaigns such as used-clothing swaps and electronic waste collection.
