Maybe it’s worth giving this acting thing a try, a young Langley boy is figuring.

After all, the first time Pacey Gillespie got hired for film or TV work was in one of the biggest movie franchises of all times.

Pacey was cast in the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn sequels as Young Quileutes, one of the young aboriginal residents of the community who turn into wolves.

The first one was released in November 2011 and the second was this November. How big is this movie franchise? The one he’s in, Breaking Dawn – Part 2, earned $578,166,118 worldwide by Nov. 25, 2012 after having opened Nov. 18.

For those of you who are not 16-year-old girls, the Breaking Dawn films were numbers four and five in the Twilight series.

Something about this tale, first in print and now on screen, and its love triangle about a regular girl, a vampire boy and a shapeshifting boy/wolf has caught the popular imagination.

What’s it like working on a movie?

“It’s awesome,” said Pacey who is now 12.

The three days of work here in B.C. took place a couple of years ago and the Peterson Road Elementary student was only recently cleared to talk about his experiences.

Pacey had been on a few auditions in the past, starting when he was nine, but was never hired until this. He did one audition then didn’t hear anything back for three months.

“I thought I didn’t get it,” Pacey said.

Until the family, which includes parents Tanya van Gerven and Derrick Gillespie, 14-year-old sister Haley, and one-year-old Bella, saw the completed movie, they weren’t sure Pacey was in it.

“You could be edited to the cutting room floor,” said his mom, Tanya van Gerven.

Pacey did his own stunts. One scene features the wolf pack coming down a hill and going into battle as the young people morph into wolves. He slipped on the steep hill and the moviemakers kept that in the film and incorporated it into the digital morphing.

“It was cool,” he said about seeing himself change into an animal.

The first thing about this industry that he learned was working on a movie involves a lot of sitting in the trailer waiting to be called to the set, then short bursts of busy.

“I’m pretty proud of Pacey,” Tanya said. “Out of all of my kids, he’s the shyest.”

Pacey wants to continue in the entertainment field and said what’s he’s experienced so far has helped him.

“It helps me not be shy anymore,” he said.

His family is looking into acting lessons. Younger brother Mason, nine, might follow suit.

A few interesting things have come out of his work. Of course he was paid. His mom said Pacey got to spend a bit but most will be saved.

He’s now got his own IMDb page (that’s something cool in the film and TV world), and is the only Pacey with an IMDb page.

He’s in photos in three Twilight commemmorative publications and magazines, shown standing beside star Taylor Lautner.

Pacey is looking at the industry at an interesting time. When his mom was growing up, opportunities for aboriginal people were limited. Originally from Winnipeg, she did some modeling through John Casablancas in the past but never broke out.

Pacey’s ancestry traces includes Cree and Saulteaux First Nations. The world has changed and now seeks out indigenous people for a variety of roles.

“I think there’s more knowledge of different cultures,” Tanya said.
