Out of the playoff picture, on a four-game winless skid, and sitting in last place in the eight-team, B.C. Hockey League Coastal Conference, the Langley Rivermen will look to pull themselves out their February funk tomorrow night in South Surrey.

The 'Men, with a 16-28-1-4 record, continue to search for their first win of the month.

They'll be looking to get that coveted "W" at South Surrey Arena on Wednesday, when they visit the Coastal Conference-leading Surrey Eagles. Game time is 7 p.m.

Getting a win will be a challenging task. The Eagles are 7-0-1-2 in their last 10 outings. Cowichan Valley Capitals 6, Rivermen 4

The Capitals continued their dominance of the Rivermen this season.

With a 6-4 win Friday at the Langley Events Centre the Caps are now 5-0 against the 'Men in the season series.

Cowichan Valley played a full 60 minute effort and did not let off the gas pedal, and was full value for its fourth win in its last five games.

The Capitals opened the scoring on a goal by Keyler Bruce, who put a snapshot over the glove of Langley netminder James Barr.

The 'Men responded a few shifts later when Evan Campbell squeezed a shot between the legs of Caps' goaltender Derek Dun in tight to even up the score.

Brett Knowles would get the Capitals' lead back on a bang-bang play to give the away team a 2-1 lead after the first period.

The visitors continued to pour it on at the start of the second frame as Matt Grant put a shot past Barr for a 3-1 Cowichan Valley lead.

At the tail end of a powerplay, Langley native Rich Vanderhoek roofed a wrist shot in tight to give the Caps their biggest lead of the game at 4-1.

The Rivermen's Ben Greiner answered right back for the hosts with a wraparound goal on a Langley powerplay.

However, Grant notched his second of the game on a breakaway as he scored glove side on Barr to shift momentum back in the Caps' favour.

With his team shorthanded, Langley's Campbell also scored his second of the game off some great work down low by Jackson Playfair with just 40 seconds to go in the middle period.

The Capitals' Logan Proulx then put the game away just after the eight minute mark of the third frame, with his team's sixth goal of the night.

Rivermen top point-getter Darnell Dyck rounded out the scoring when he found the net on a man advantage with 2: 07 to play in the game.

The Caps outshot the Rivermen 45-32 as Dun picked up the win, while Barr was charged the loss.

. . .

Following Wednesday's game, the Rivermen are in for a busy weekend.

The 'Men are at Bear Mountain Arena in Victoria on Friday to take on the Victoria Grizzlies.

The following night, they'll be at Duncan's Island Savings Centre to face Cowichan Valley.

The Langley juniors wrap up the weekend Sunday afternoon at home against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Game time at the Langley Events Centre is 2 p.m.
