More than 1,200 people enjoyed the unique mix of athletics and history that was Sunday's Historic Half Marathon.
A huge crowd amassed inside the Fort Langley National Historic Site before setting off on the seventh annual run through Fort Langley.
After covering distances ranging from five kilometres to half a marathon, the participants returned to cross the finish line in the fort.
The race featured a handful of people from outside B.C. including from Washington State, Colorado, North Carolina, Ontario, and Alberta.
About 140 people took part in the five kilometre event that saw Langley's Alexander Lee with the fastest time (men's 20-29) and 13-year-old Jackson Silvester-Lee in the 0-19 event.
Silvester-Lee, a member of Ocean Athletics, takes part in about five runs each year and was the first person to cross the finish line on Sunday morning.
He didn't expect to do as well as he did, having finished farther back in a recent Surrey run.
"I didn't think I was going to win," he said.
In the half marathon distance, the men's winners were Dallas Cain, of Rossland, with a time of 1:19:31.2 (men's 30-39); Surrey's Darin Bentley who ran the event in 1:21:06.5 (men's 0-19); and Victor Mladenka (men's 50-59) with a time of 1:23:21.3.
Mission's Eric Laurie (1:26:49.1) won the men's 20-29 event. For the 60-69 group, Maple Ridge runner Denver Anderlini won in 1:40:30.6 while Vancouver's Michael Breeze, at 1:58:58.2, won the men's 70-79 event.
The women's winners were Langley's Suzy VanDyck in the 30-39 category with a time of 1:28:50.1, while Claudette Augert topped the 40-49 group. The Edmontonian ran 1:33:00.7.
Langley' Erin Rawstron, with her time of 1:39:59.1, was the top finisher in the 20-29 category.
A Port Moody runner, Kathryn O'Grady, won the 50-59 category in 1:42:08.7 while Alanna Janz of Kamloops posted a time of 1:46:10.4 to take the top spot in the women's 0-19 category.
In the women's 60-69, Gaydene Philipchalk of Fort Langley won (2:09:56.5). Liz Borrett, 73, came from Kelowna and ended up with the best time in the 70-79 category (1:57:17.0).
Duane Foley of Langley with a time of 1:23:19.4 was the first local finisher, coming in second in the men's 0-19 category.
