Russian-heritage musicians at LCMS
Cafe Classico continues with five unique musical events in Langley and two special bonus concerts

The Langley Community Music School's (LCMS) Cafe Classico series will feature pianist, Eugene Skovorodnikov and violinist/violist Yuri Zaidenberg this Sunday, Nov. 4.
The two musicians will take the stage together in the second show of the LCMS Cafe Classico series. The series is defined by the interactive educational and entertainment components.
Refreshments and a pre-concert chat with the school's artistic director Elizabeth Bergmann begin at 3 p.m. with the show at 4 p.m.
"The duo of Russian descent will perform one of Schubert's most well know works, the Arpeggione Sonata," Bergmann said. "The piece was originally written for an instrument [the arpeggione] that is now extinct."
Born in Ukraine, Skovorodnikov is known internationally for stylistic interpretation and technical brilliance. A Steinway artist, Skovorodnikov has been teaching with the piano faculty at the University of British Columbia since 1991.
Also born in Ukraine, Zaidenberg began playing violin at age seven and appeared in many concerts and on radio and television throughout much of the former Soviet Union. Zaidenberg, an LCMS faculty member, has enjoyed more than 30 years teaching experience.
Future Cafe Classico shows include: Ian and Friends - a concert of cello and other strings on Jan. 13; Patricia Armstrong and Paul MacDermot perform violin and guitar music on Mar. 10; cellist Ariel Barnes performs on April 12; and the season winds up with a night-time cafe and jazz performance on May 3 at 7 p.m.
"In addition to our regular concert series, LCMS is delighted to present two bonus concerts this season," Bergmann noted.
The first is a piano duo featuring Bergmann and her husband on Nov. 24 at 7: 30 p.m. The second is a combination of flute, piano and cello performing New and Improved: Stolen works for flute, strings, and piano on Jan. 12.
Both bonus concerts are by donation to attend. Cafe Classico concerts are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $10 for students.
All shows are at the Rose Gellert Hall at 4899 207 Street.
