There is a special ceremony in the 21200 block of Fraser Highway at 2 p.m. on Nov. 11.

It includes the unveiling of a commemorative structure listing the names of the 158 Canadian soldiers who have died in Afghanistan, a memorial tree planting (Langley Youth For the Fallen: A Walk to Remember), and a Fraser Blues flypast. The band of the 15th Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery will perform as part of its With Glowing Hearts concert series.

The memorial grove of trees (Langley Youth for the Fallen) was the creation of siblings Elizabeth and Michael Pratt.

The teens wanted a way to honour fallen soldiers who in many cases were not much older than the two.

The regiment band performing at the dedication ceremony had invited the Pratts to speak at its recent concerts in Maple Ridge and Richmond to spotlight the project.

They have been working to find sponsors for the trees and have received support from across Canada and beyond.

The project was then expanded to include the Township's new cenotaph, with 2012 being the first time for Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place at the arboretum.
