For the month of August, the spotlight is on a series of local events and shows.

Langley is one of 80 communities taking part in the ninth annual BC Cultural Crawl this month, turning the spotlight on a series of workshops, art shows, festivals, theatre, dance performances, and other arts or cultural events and locations that this town has to offer between Aug. 1 and 31.

BC Cultural Crawl is a self-guided tour of community-initiated events that encourage people - who might not have otherwise done so - to explore all that the community has to offer, explained Alison Brotherton, executive director of the Langley Arts Council.

It's a celebration of the vibrant arts, culture, and heritage in the province - and specifically in Langley, she explained, and one of the most notable on the local itinerary is Arts Alive! festival in downtown Langley City this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other Crawl events listed on the web-based directory include next weekend's International Festival, the farmer's market at Kwantlen Polytechnic University Wednesdays, concerts in the park at Douglas Park Friday nights at 5 p.m., and campfire songs at the Fort Langley National Historical Site every Saturday at 7 p.m.

To find out more about Langley's bounty of arts and culture, visit the crawl website at: www.bcculturalcrawl.com.
