The team at Langley Community Music School is reaching out in an effort to entice more children into music with the second in its series of free kids concerts next week.

The school is hosting its free Family Intro to Music Night on Tuesday, March 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Rose Gellert Hall, 4899 207th St.

The event will include a free performance of Prokofiev’s famed musical children’s fairtytale, Peter and the Wolf, featuring a narrator and puppets, piano and woodwinds, presented by West Coast Chamber Music.

The LCMS family night is “one of our most exciting nights of the year,” said principal Susan Magnusson.

“We open our doors to the community and invite families to enjoy this fun, interactive, informative and entertaining musical evening,” she said.

The combination of music and narration with theatricality, dance, masks, puppets, and mime is “a stimulating and educational experience for all,” said members of West Coast Chamber.

LCMS’s family night also provides attendees with the opportunity to try out a variety of instruments, meet the teachers, and learn more about classical and popular music programs for students of all ages, including a new vocal course for teens and adults, the principal explained.

“Drop in for a little while, or stay for the entire event,” Magnusson said.

This concert is the second in a series of free children’s concerts presented by the Langley Community Music School, with the support of the Metro Vancouver Cultural Grants Program.

For the finale of the LCMS Children’s Concert Series, they’ll be presenting Young Person’s Guide to the String Quartet with the Rose Gellert String Quartet on May 6, at 1 p.m.
