The seniors of Langley Lodge will benefit from two recent donations.

The lodge in downtown Langley City is undergoing a $28-million upgrade and expansion.

Remax Treeland Realty realtors each contributed and came up with a $16,282.75 donation to the non-profit society that runs the facility.

As well volunteers with Home Depot worked on the lodge gardens Aug. 23 and 24.

"As a not for profit, every single nickel and dime goes back into the various programs and services for residents," explained Patrick Matiowski, the lodge's fundraising director. "Each time there's a gift or donation... it has a direct impact for residents."

Home Depot volunteers built two raised beds that people in wheelchairs can work in, and constructed two pergolas with raised planter benches that are high enough for people in wheelchairs to pull under.

"We try to do this a few times a year," explained Mike Lahaie, a department head with Langley's Home Depot. "It just feels great. I love doing these."

There are residents living in the new six-storey tower at Langley Lodge and the existing tower is under renovation as the facility expands and modernizes to meet current standards.
