Langley RCMP Insp. Amrik Virk has been re-elected vice chair of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University board of governors.
He's been on the board since the summer of 2008 and his term runs until 2013.
Virk has held postings in Alberta, Surrey and now Langley. He recently completed a six-year term as a director with the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation. He has been a member of the Advisory Panel with the Community Outreach Advisory Board of Simon Fraser University (Surrey Campus), and a director with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, Law Enforcement, and Diversity Network.
Virk holds a bachelor of arts in economics from SFU. He is married with three children, and also has a black belt in karate.
The board of governors oversees the management, administration and control of the property, revenue, business and affairs of the university.
Surrey's Gord Schoberg was re-elected as chair and has served on the board since 2008.
Kwantlen started about 30 years ago, achieving university status in 2008. It has campuses in Langley, Cloverdale, Surrey and Richmond, where more than 17,500 students take courses in its 200 programs offered.
