Langley Township firefighters "chipped in" for good causes Saturday.
The firefighters stationed themselves in the Real Canadian Superstore's parking lot, collecting Christmas trees for chipping while raising funds their charitable society, which supports Variety - The Children's Charity of British Columbia, BC Children's Hospital, the Burn Fund, and the Canadian Cancer Society.
This year, the local group is also making a special donation to BC Children's Hospital, since one of its members has his child at the South Vancouver hospital.
"The staff and doctors have been amazing in this difficult time and we really want support such an amazing group," Township firefighter Steve McLay said.
Tree chipping was by donation, and the firefighters accepted branches that had been laying around local properties as a result of recent wind storms.
The firefighters also hosted a tree chipping event Jan. 2 at the Otter Co-Op.
Through the tree-chipping, the local firefighters raised a little more than $1,000 for their charities, reported firefighter Steve Bowden.
