Jorda Maisey was elected as vice president of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board at the group's annual meeting on Feb. 20.

Ron Todson of Abbotsford will be taking over the president's spot from Scott Olson, while Surrey's Ray Werger is the incoming president-elect.

Maisey has been heavily involved with groups such as the Rotary Club, of which she is a local past president, Children's Miracle Network, ShelterBox, and a group called Quest for Excellence that gives bursaries to new high school grads.

She has also been a realtor since the mid-1990s, won a Realtors Make Good Neighbours award in 2006, and has been involved as an FVREB committee member or director since 2007, including studying ethical facilitation and as chair of arbitration and business practices.

Although housing sales have been in a bit of a slump around Metro Vancouver for the last few months, Maisey is optimistic, particularly about her home area.

"Langley is one of the fastest growing communities in the Fraser Valley, which is why our market has been so resilient over the last few months," she said.

She sees an uptick in the sale of single-family homes compared to the numbers seen in January.

"This bodes well for a solid spring market," Maisey said.

According to her stats, the market in Langley is still "balanced" between a buyer's and a seller's market.

The ratio of sales to inventory was 12 per cent in Januray, and as of late February was sitting at 14 per cent, Maisey said.

A rating of between 15 to 25 per cent is considered to be a balanced market, she said.

Maisey said she's excited to be joining the board to serve her fellow realtors.

"When you serve on the board, you develop an even stronger appreciation and pride for the profession," Maisey said. "The calibre of people you volunteer with is second to none and together, you feel like you're making a difference for generations of realtors to come. It's incredibly rewarding."

One of the major changes that will face realtors starting at the end of March is the expiry of the First Time Home Buyers Bonus, a grant offered by the province for first-time buyers of new homes since last year. The grant was up to $10,000, depending on the price of the new home and the income of the homebuyers. The last day for which a purchase is eligible is March 31.

The FVREB respresents realtors largely from the South of the Fraser area, stretching from North Delta east to Abbotsford, and also including Mission.

Todson, the new president, has been active in real estate since 1981, and said the group's goal is to ensure its member realtors have the best tools and support.

The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board has been in operation since 1921.
