A Langley company - specifically one from the Aldergrove's Gloucester industrial park, received national accolades on the weekend.

Cascadia Window CEO Mike Battistel was on hand Friday for the 30th annual BC Export Awards, where his company was one of 10 honoured for their outstanding contribution to the province's export industry.

Cascadia, which is a leader in the innovation, development, and manufacturing of fibreglass construction products, was honoured in the sustainability category.

"As part of the BC Jobs Plan, our government is committed to opening new markets and expanding existing ones for B.C. products and services," said Pat Bell, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and the Minister Responsible for Labour, congratulating Battistel and his team for their efforts.

Holidays at home

One lucky senior is going home for the holidays thanks to a Christmas contest being hosted by the Nurses Next Door company based in Surrey and Langley.

For most people, Christmas is a busy and sociable time filled with joy and time spent with loved ones. However, for the nearly eight per cent of seniors in Vancouver spending the holidays in hospitals or extended care facilities, the holiday season can feel like the loneliest time of the year.

To help bring some Christmas spirit to those often forgotten, they're holding a contest aimed at bringing a senior home for the holiday.

For seniors living in medical facilities, often the reason they cannot make it home for the holidays is because they require the assistance of trained caregivers or medical staff," said of Nurse Next Door Jamie Sinclair.

"If the elderly patients' family members are unable to help with their daily living activities and care needs, the senior may not be discharged."

The winner will be provided with two days of complimentary home care services based on their individual needs. Promising to do whatever it takes to make their holiday special, from friendly companionship, delicious meal preparation, transportation and errand running right through to 24/7 medical care from a registered nurse.

The deadline for 300word submissions is Dec. 19, with contest details at www.nursenextdoor.com.
