Dear Editor,
Township Mayor Jack Froese has talked about the possibility of putting a new casino in the old Gibbs Nursery site. Many people in the community are very concerned.
It is too close to several schools, especially R.E. Mountain Secondary. The portable classrooms are just a few steps away from the Langley Events Centre. Has it been considered if the site is suitable in that regard?
We already have a big casino in Langley. Do we need another one?
Langley Events Centre and a casino are not really good mix. The LEC is such a hub of community activities for families. Many children go there.
The casino would be close to the Willoughby residential area. We live in the heart of this area. With a casino there, we will worry about our safety and well-being.
The mayor is elected by the people and for the people of Langley. We hope he will initiate extensive public consultation before he and his council make such an important decision. People in this area will be directly affected by the decision, and we hope we will have an opportunity to voice our concerns.
