Still time to donate food and cash

Hunger doesn't take a summer holiday.

Hunger doesn't care that the sun is out and the temperatures are hot. Hunger doesn't care that people yearn to soak up some rays or create special memories with their families.

Instead, hunger is a reality - summer and winter - for many people in Langley.

To help alleviate hunger in the community, the Langley Advance continues to collect food and cash donations as part of the community newspaper's Pay It Forward campaign.

People have been stopping by the newspaper office at 6375 202nd St. with baby food, staple groceries, some treats, and cash.

Donations (food and cash) are accepted during office hours (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The goal is to gather enough donations to fill a cube fan with food.

The non-perishable food donations are being given to the Langley Food Bank while the cash donations are being split between Langley Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army Gateway of Hope shelter. The donations will help the community groups carry on with their work of feeding people at a time of year when donation-reliant groups are often overlooked.
