Local paramedics and firefighters will be staffing the grills at a barbecue lunch for charity.

The public is invited to head to the First Responders Appreciation BBQ and Fundraiser Sept. 14

The residents of the Renaissance Retirement Resort wanted to create an event that would allow the people and seniors in particular to honour first responders.

"Around 911 we thought would be a good way of doing it," explained Stephanie Cockerell, with the Renaissance.

It run from noon to 3 p.m.

Tickets are $5 and all proceeds will be to charities chosen by the paramedics and firefighters.

This is the first of what organizers say will be an annual event to honour first responders.

"We do want to make it big a community event," Cockerill said.

People will have a chance to meet the first responders in a relaxed, non-emergency environment.

The event is at 6676 203rd St. with parking in behind the retirement building. Anyone wanting more information can call 604-539-0571.
