Midsummer-like conditions in late summer helped make the 32nd annual Terry Fox Run in Langley City a huge success.

"It absolutely made a big difference," run chair Lilianne Fuller said, when asked about the beautiful conditions.

"The weather brings people out. The hard core people come out in the rain, but everybody comes out in the sunshine."

A total of 292 registered participants took part in the event and nearly $8,000 was raised for cancer research.

A small army of volunteers showed up to help with the setup and teardown of the site, and Langley City firefighters grilled hotdogs and hamburgers donated by Hardy Sales.

Fuller said this year's event was the culmination of the combined efforts of several volunteers.

The 2012 Terry Fox Run committee was made up of local volunteers and included Leanne Cassap, Val Vandenbroek, Renate Gueluette, Tony Fuller, Janet Copley, Sue and Jim Harder, and Leah McDowell.

Fuller chaired the event.

"The team we put together to organize the [Langley City] Terry Fox Run this year was outstanding," Fuller said. "Everyone pulled together and they made it a success, and I'm so proud of the team."

A team of community volunteers from Scotiabank were on hand to do registration and reconciliation, and brought along their team mascot, Sizzle the saving pig.

The musical duo of Ched Miller and Mike Villeneuve provided live entertainment.

"Terry believed in community and he knew what could be accomplished if everyone worked together - his spirit was evident in the crowd today," Fuller said.

"I just want to thank all the participants, the volunteers, and the Langley City staff members- you all made it a day to remember."
