The empty Milner farmhouse that was the scene of a double murder in June has burned, the victim of a suspicious fire.

Assistant Langley Township fire chief Bruce Ferugson said the call came in at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

Township crews from four fire halls, with some help from Langley City firefighters, hauled water to the rural site in the 6400 block of Glover Road.

Most of the building was destroyed, however. On Thursday morning, it was apparent that the rancher’s roof had largely caved in.

Ferguson estimated the damage at around $150,000, and said it was unlikely it could be repaired.

The home is the same one that Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) officers spent days searching after the June 23 slaying.

Police were called that day at about 2:30 a.m., to what was at first reported as a domestic dispute.

They found two men with gunshot wounds, and four more men and one young woman inside a house thickly doused with bear spray.

The two shooting victims have been identified as 27-year-old Gordon Spencer, who died at the scene, and 25-year-old Bruce Mayo, who died in hospital.

Everyone else at the house was briefly arrested, but later released without charges.

No arrests have been announced since the incident. Both victims had criminal records, but police have not commented on whether the murders are thought to be linked to drugs or gangs.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound, who speaks for IHIT, said the Langley RCMP are investigating the fire, and if any connection to the murder comes up, IHIT will get involved again.

So far, there’s nothing to suggest that.

“At this point, it’s not linked to our investigation,” Pound said.

The fire has not destroyed any evidence as far as Pound is aware. Police processed the scene for four days after the shootings.

IHIT has asked any witnesses in the murder to come forward.
