Langley RCMP are hoping a cellphone picture can help them track down the young man who mugged a teenager.

The 14-year-old victim was walking in the 21100 block of 85th Avenue at about 7:20 p.m. on the evening of Aug. 26, said Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

She saw an older teenager walking towards her, and crossed the street to avoid him, Marks said.

The boy crossed the street as well, then confronted her and demanded she hand over her money.

She said she didn’t have any. The older boy grabbed her purse and knocked her to the ground.

The girl was not seriously hurt, Marks said.

After rifling through the purse, and finding nothing, the attacker gave back the purse and walked away.

A nearby resident saw the entire attack, and followed the suspect for a while, even taking a photo of his retreating back with a cellphone camera.

The mugger is Caucasian, about 17 or 18 years old, with brown hair, facial stubble, and standing 5’9”. He was wearing a brown hoodie, jeans, and green running shoes at the time of the attack.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect can call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200, or to remain anonymous, call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

CrimeStoppers can also be found at www.solvecrime.ca or through Facebook, and it accepts information sent to CRIMES (274637) with the keyword BCTIP.
