Dear Editor,
We are the Township.
The list of objectionable comments by Mr. Nickason [Neighbour's business his own, June 19 Letters, Langley Advance] is too long to answer fully.
However, the tone of his letter makes it clear that Mr. Nickason does not have much community spirit.
He writes that "the Township- [assumes]- that it can force homeowners to look after the Township's property during the winter months - i.e.: snow on sidewalks and storm drains."
First: the Township's property is actually yours and mine, held and administered on our behalf, paid for by the taxes we Township homeowner's submit.
Second: if clearing snow and keeping an eye out for plugged storm drains helps to keep costs under control and decreases the likelihood of injury to my neighbours' persons and properties, I can surely afford the half hour of exercise.
Think of it as a non-monetary way to help pay your property taxes.
If a bylaw is necessary to make residents understand those ideas, then so be it.
