Dear Editor,
My heart goes out to the families of the two people killed in the recent motor vehicle accident on 16th Avenue.
Having said that, I would like to offer a few comments, as a commuter using that road almost daily during the week.
Most vehicles keep up with the normal flow of traffic, albeit usually above the speed limit. While I have sympathy for the folks who live along 16th Avenue, it is an arterial road, and was most likely designated that way when they purchased their properties.
I have noticed passenger vehicles that, despite the flow of traffic, want to pass other vehicles, and do so where there is a double yellow line. On several occasions, I have had vehicles pass me in that exact situation.
If there is an oncoming vehicle, that vehicle (often a dump truck) gets the bad rap, when it is not necessarily them causing the problem.
There is a need to widen this road at some point, but if the drivers would obey the rules of the road, there definitely wouldn't be as many problems.
